7 days left!

Just seven days left till the opening of the exhibition.

Next week is the week: on May 11, we are going to open the exhibition „Project Social Media“ of which „components“ is one section.

„We“ translates as eleven graduating students of the „Prager Fotoschule Österreich“. „Project Social Media“ is our graduating project, conceived by our project-leader Reinhard Reidinger, artist, graphic artist, photographer and lecturer at the „Prager Fotoschule Österreich“.

Read his opinions on the topic:
social media: a topic just everywhere.

tools for communication with the outside-world.
networking, information exchange and data-profiles.
meeting people one lost contact with.
my american friend discovers family-ties to his forefathers in vorarlberg, austria, three generations after his ancestors emigrated and a close friendship develops. connecting people who believe in a common goal in a larger context – would the revolutions in the islamic countries have been possible without social media? never in history did such possibilities exist. fantastic! ultimately, it was these impressions which made me choose the topic „social media“ as an exhibition-topic  for the students of our form 31. i am convinced that the means of communication and the internet in general will play a contributing, yet crucial role to world-peace. i believe, social media turns the world into a smaller place, makes people move closer to each other and can thus contribute to more understanding and justice.

of course, the original idea of private communication has by now developed into an economic factor. many oportunities, many points of danger, shadow and light.

„the quality of a community is defined by it´s members.“

37 days left!

Looking at the calendar in the morning: 37 days left until the opening of the exhibition.
The preparations are getting hectic.  Some time ago we, the curators, were meeting in Vienna to discuss the further steps of organizing the exhibition “project social media”. Together with the team of the gallery “Farbenklang” we agreed on a first plan how to arrange the exhibits. This was the birthday of “Components”. Since that moment I knew that we would be able to spread over a wall of 4 meters length.
Considering this wonderful and amazing space, my initial plan (a collage printed on paper or canvas) changed immediately to plan “B”: Components needs far more…The process of finding an idea has its own, very special rhythm – do you know that, too?
All of a sudden you stop sleeping at night, because there are a million of useful ideas in your head. The morning after – no idea at all is left, vanished in the sink of the shower! Then follows the “I do not sit at the table” – feeling, paper and pencil are waiting there. Instead you prefer eating while standing, drinking coffee in any other corner. You are starting to clean the house, go shopping, do the washing; you are turning to a perfect housewife!Ideenfindung And there is also facebook –al these 1000 contacts have to be suddenly cared for. You are searching here and there, online, even switch the TV on!

But the paper on the table continues to dazzle in its white splendour.

This suffering lasts for one whole week until again good friends are helping. A little bit of lamenting via mail, fantasizing together, input from everywhere helps to open step by step the treasury of creative ideas.
Thanks soooooo much!

It´s ready, the concept of “Components”.
Since that moment, I turned to a charming lady again, said my husband.

Nobody is perfect

I have to confess that my English is not the very best.

Despite this, I am writing this blog because „components“ and all participants are important to me and part of my heart and soul. I hope you are not too upset that the odd sentence here and there is not 100% perfect.

Through my work and on many short and longer trips, I have met many people of different cultures. Somehow, language was never a barrier, ways and means to understand each other were always found. Once connections can be established through interests, political opinions, social attitudes, ways of living or family situations, a common language is easily found.

Last but not least, I would like to thank all those kind helpers to „components“, assisting in texting and translating, my husband Horst, my daughters in law, Juliana and Maria, my friend and „word-smith“ Dagmar.

Kind regards, Simone

So far 180 participants

Hello friends,

So far 180 participants at components, that´s a good number in such a short time. Although I had secretly hoped for this good participation, I am nonetheless positively surprised and happy.
Great! Thanks to each and everyone of you. I am delighted you are supporting the project.
I shall keep you informed about news and developments, about the highs and lows of organising the exhibition, about new participants and their creativity. I am looking forward to your comments and a creative exchange.

Kind regards, Simone
